“A WHOLE CHANGE FOR THE HOMELESS”

wholefoodshomelesspromo.jpgOn any given night there are 3,600 homeless individuals on Oahu, and of this, more than half are families with children.  In addition, over 1,100 are unsheltered and living on the streets.

How can you help to reduce the number of homeless on Oahu?

1.  Donate your spare change.

From Now through September 30, 2010, Whole Foods Kahala will have jars placed at each register where customers can donate their loose change.  All the money collected at the end of the program will be donated to Aloha United Way’s Homeless Impact Area, which supports programs aimed at reducing the number of homeless individuals on Oahu through coordinated efforts with its various partner agencies.

2.  Educate yourself about homelessness in our community.

Attend a series of community discussions on the topic of “Homelessness in Hawaii” to learn more about the programs that are in place and what people can do to help.  Led by Aloha United Way and its various partner agencies’ volunteers and staff members, these community discussions will take place on the following Thursdays at the Whole Foods Market Kahala café:

  • July 8, 2010, from 6 PM to 7 PM
  • July 22, 2010, from 6 PM to 7 PM
  • August 5, 2010, from 6 PM to 7 PM
  • August 19, 2010, from 6 PM to 7 PM
  • September 9, 2010 from 6 PM to 7 PM
  • September 23, 2010 from 6 PM to 7 PM
